Tactile Art
My clients fell in love with these antique knobs from The Door Store in Toronto and wanted them for their french doors. Unfortunately, they only had one set and we needed two. After spending a lot of time (too much time to be honest) looking for something similar, with no luck, we decided to hire an ironsmith to make something similar, but in the finish and size we needed. Of course, like all things new and experimental it opened a can of worms. For instance, we needed other hardware components such as flush-bolts and swing hinges for the other doors and didn't want to pay to have everything custom made. We did find these nice looking hinges but got our ironsmith to do his magic on everything else we bought to match the custom knobs. My clients are avid art collectors and procure high quality, unique items. I know they will appreciate the time and cost of customizing their hardware every time they open their doors and can touch what was created just for them. We'll call it tactile art.
