My cottage is a small getaway on Lake Huron where my family and I break free from the city for many weekends in the summer. I would like to say we are blissfully unaware of the pending colder months ahead, but knowing we only have a couple of months to savour sunny and warm rainy days, makes our trips there even more special.

Lately, I've been reflecting a lot on colour schemes and texture and how it can bring uniqueness and merit to a design project. Since I was at the cottage this past weekend, I was excited to get outside and take a few nature shots on my iPhone to get a fresh take on colour again. I've grown weary of seeing the same look copied over and over again in magazines and social media. It seems the art of using beautiful colour combinations has gone amiss these days and is for the most part being overrun by trends and cheapened, watered down decorating. There's something to be said for those who have a more sophisticated handle on colour theory and who know how to manipulate those colours with just the right textures to create breathtaking spaces. It really is an art form and one that I try to improve on every day.

I found a huge source of inspiration while on my walk. Nature gave me bold and gutsy, to soft and sensual colour and texture combinations that I will creatively draw from when choosing finishes and paint selections for my projects.
